Antique ‘Feed-sack shirt’ Quilt

£100.00

Antique ‘Feed-Sack & shirt’ quilt.   42″ x 66″ approx

Hand made from feed sack fabric & shirt materials.   Any bits of fabric have been saved and stitched together in a traditional  design.  Its hand made & quilted.  Would have been made about 1860.

It appears to have had a double life, firstly as a full bed sized quilt, then has been cut in half, probably to provide cover for 2 smaller beds.  It really is very soft to the touch.

The quilt has obviously been loved long before Abbie brought it from American over 20 years ago.  It shows lots of areas of wear and tear, this has been left as it is to ensure its as original as possible.

It has been cleaned and is ready for a new home.  Its not suitable for use but to be appreciated for its authenticity.

A fabulous example of how our hobby started out of necessity.  We are so spoilt with the fabrics.threads battings that we can choose form today.
